As a result, they come at a premium but also feature some of the most striking effects when it comes to brilliance and clarity. Of all VVS diamonds, VVS2 diamonds have the least noticeable inclusions (VS1, VS2 and VVS1 are the other ratings in this category).
Earth-Grown Diamonds
Earth-grown diamonds are mined from deep under the earth's surface where they have lain dormant for millions of years. When you hold an earth grown diamond, you can reflect on the immense journey the gem has taken over many millennia and the history it has endured during that time.
A natural diamond starts out in the lowly form of graphite, such as you might find in the tip of your pencil. Over the course of hundreds of millions of years, the immense pressure and temperature produced deep inside the earth affect the graphite, eventually rearranging the carbon atoms into a hard crystal structure.
Miners then dig deep tunnels under the earth and collect the rough diamonds. These rough diamonds looks nothing like the sparkly diamonds you see in fine jewelry. Instead, a rough diamond has an irregular shape, is very dirty and looks dull. The diamond is then cleaned, cut into the desired shape, and finally polished into the beautiful diamond you are now holding!
